Stiles to Ford: Urge Carney to reverse the attack on Air Canada flight attendants’ Charter-protected labour rights

OTTAWA — Leader of the Official Opposition NDP Marit Stiles has written to Premier Doug Ford ahead of his meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney, urging him to defend Ontario workers by reversing the Liberal government’s union-busting back-to-work order against Air Canada flight attendants.

“As you are aware, this weekend, Prime Minister Carney’s Liberal government instructed the Canada Industrial Relations Board to impose binding arbitration between CUPE and Air Canada. This intervention strips thousands of workers of their Charter-protected right to strike and sets a dangerous precedent for labour relations in Canada,” wrote Stiles.

“Premier, as you prepare to meet with Prime Minister Carney today, I am calling on you to defend Ontario’s workers by speaking up. Urge him to reverse his government’s decision to legislate flight attendants back to work under s.107 and call on him to demand that Air Canada end this dispute with a fair deal reached at the bargaining table - one that sees flight attendants paid for their work.

“Working people in Ontario need their Premier to stand up for them, respect their labour and uphold the right to free and fair collective bargaining.”
